Controversial active model for unemployment security will come into force from 1 January 2018

Today, 19 December 2017, the Parliament of Finland approved a bill on an active model for unemployment security, which will affect the lives of unemployed persons receiving unemployment benefit as of January. The model cuts unemployment security, increases bureaucracy but does not genuinely encourage the unemployed.

PAM is disappointed: decision by the Parliament of Finland worsens Alcohol Act

The Parliament of Finland decided to raise the percentage limit of alcohol sold in grocery stores and to remove the restriction on fermentation method. In PAM’s opinion parliament’s decision risks having a negative effect on employment and work safety as well as the government’s objective to shift alcohol consumption to restaurants.

PAM’s Executive Committee and the Agreement Sector Commissions unanimously approved the mediation proposals made by National Conciliator Minna Helle for the ski centre and activity programme sectors. PAM President Ann Selin considers the settlement to be balanced.

The conciliation led to no results on Thursday - the first lock-out actions will start on Friday

PAM and the employers’ organisation MaRa were negotiating at the National Conciliator’s Office Thursday. An understanding in the dispute has not been reached. This means, that the lock-out announced by the employer, will begin tomorrow Friday 8 December on the first locations in the ski centre and activity programme sector.
