It’s easy to vote electronically – you can even do it from your couch! But if you want vote in another way, or you don’t own a computer, worry not: you can vote in PAM’s Congress elections in the election truck or at selected shopping centres.

PAM’s Congress elections begin next Monday. The PAM election truck will bring the elections to the voters on its tour of southern Finland until 6 April.

“We want to come close to the members, to promote the union and the elections, and to make voting as easy as possible. If there are people who lack the equipment for electronic voting, we can help,” explains Jenni Pihlaste, organisational affairs specialist at PAM, about the motivations behind the truck tour.

To organise the tour, they first had to arrange for a truck and a driver, and then book a spot by a square or in front of a shopping centre at each location, Pihlaste lists.

“Also, we had to decide how to decorate the truck with PAM’s colours and which equipment we would need inside it to organise the voting while ensuring that the voting remains private. One night we realised that we would also have to arrange for garbage bins! And then we had to plan the communications around the tour.”

Active members from PAM’s local branches have agreed to come help organise the events in many of the towns along the tour. They may also distribute PAM brochures and tour workplaces – but it is considered inappropriate to campaign for specific candidates while the voting is ongoing, Pihlaste points out. This means that information will be given out on PAM and the Congress elections in general. Additionally, members will be enticed to visit the truck with a classic perk: free PAM buckets.

In addition to the truck tour, some regional PAM branches in northern, eastern and south-eastern Finland are organising voting booths at shopping centres. Local branches and workplaces will also have voting places in their areas.

You can already read about the PAM Congress candidates in the candidate gallery.
