Ann Selin to step down as PAM President in summer 2019

Ann Selin, President of Service Union United PAM, informed PAM’s Council that this will be her last term as PAM President. Selin’s successor will be elected at PAM’s congress in June 2019.

Ann Selin, who has led PAM since 2002, informed the meeting of PAM’s Council today that she no longer intends to stand for election as PAM President.

– By the end of this term I will have been President for over 16 years. This is a long time and a very long time to have such a responsible job. I have learnt and experienced a lot during this time. Being President of PAM is a privilege, but I feel that now is the time to hand over this role. So I will not be standing for President at the union congress next year.

Selin will be President until PAM’s congress in June 2019. She has not yet announced her plans for the future.

– I intend to be hands-on in leading the union in the year ahead. I want to pass the union on to my successor on a high, not a low, note. During the year we will be laying the groundwork for the next collective bargaining round, with the elections coming we will be doing a lot of PR work and we will be preparing for PAM’s congress, which will set out the union’s future policy line. I won’t be retiring a year from now.

Selin gave thanks for the support she has received over the year and stressed in her speech that the election of the new President is an opportunity for the union.
– Change at the top of the union is an opportunity to see things from a new perspective as well as an opportunity to do new things and in a new way.
