Everyday key issues are decided by municipalities and there is plenty of room in local politics for service sector employees.

Many parties are currently looking for candidates for next spring’s municipal elections. Municipal elections are also important elections from the perspective of PAM members, as key issues related to the smooth running of people's lives are decided by municipal councils and boards. You can run for the municipal elections - the election is your place to influence.

Are you interested in taking part in decision-making, for example, on how to ensure the adequacy of care places for the families of shift workers? Or do you want to be involved in developing public transport that supports smooth commuting? Do you want the services to be easily accessible to everyone and forthose who need more services to be able to afford housing, transport and hobbies?

Municipal decision-makers are elected to the councils among the residents of the municipalities, and they exercise the highest decision-making power in matters related to the municipality's operations and finances. PAM encourages all its members to run in municipal elections so that the needs of people working in the service sector are better taken into account in political decision-making on a local level.

PAM is taking an active part in the elections

The municipal elections to be held next spring will be strongly reflected in PAM's operations. The union will publish its own aims for the municipal election at the beginning of the year. Many decisions made in municipalities directly affect people's lives. That is why we want to play our part in ensuring that the voice and opinions of PAM members are heard in the municipal elections.

During the autumn of 2020, a separate section will be built on PAM's website, where PAM members can follow the progress of the municipal elections and from which candidates can obtain information and support for their own municipal election work. Follow the page already now on www.pam.fi/kuntavaalit or see the page in English
