Did you know? Holiday pay
In hotel, restaurant and leisure services, you are entitled to receive your holiday pay before going on holiday, at least if that is what you request.
Collective Agreement for the Hotel, Restaurant and Leisure Industry, Clause 27.10.2: "Holiday pay will be paid out before the start of the holidays. As an alternative, holiday pay can be paid on the company’s regular pay day unless the employee asks for payment of holiday pay to be made before the start of the holidays.’"
The holiday season is approaching. As a general rule, the Collective Agreement for the Hotel, Restaurant and Leisure Industry stipulates that annual holiday pay will be paid out before the start of the holidays. Similar provisions are also in place in many other fields. According to the Collective Agreement, employees in hotel, restaurant and leisure services are always entitled to receive their holiday pay before the start of their holidays on request, even if the workplace practice is to pay it on the regular pay day.
Waiter Uko Maas from Lohja, were you aware of this agreement clause?
Yes, I’ve been working here at Radisson for five years now and I knew that you have the option to ask to receive your holiday pay before the start of the holidays, or also during or after the holidays.
How is payment of holiday pay agreed at your workplace?
It’s a good idea to discuss your choices with your superiors every year before the holidays. They will then take things forward based on employees’ choices.
How would you like to receive your holiday pay?
I like to receive my holiday pay in two instalments, in the same way as hourly paid employees are paid. That way, you always have something in your account and don’t suddenly run out of money!
