Jouni Tallgren standing for election as PAM President
Service Union United PAM will elect a new President of the union at its congress in June. A second candidate has now come forward for the post of President, union activist and deputy head shop steward Jouni Tallgren from Järvenpää.
Jouni Tallgren, deputy chairman of PAM’s Specialised employees’ branch, announced that he was standing for election as PAM President.
“Like many other people, I have been wondering why just one person has announced they are standing to be President of the largest trade union in Finland. With my own candidacy I would like to raise the members’ views of how PAM members are treated at the highest levels of the administration”, Tallgren explains.
The trade union activist, who will turn 40 in the spring, works as a senior advisor in the customer service and telemarketing company Webhelp Finland Oy. He has been a shop steward for his company for several years and he is currently deputy head shop steward. He also has previous experience working in service sector companies in the restaurant, cleaning and retail sector.
“I know from my own experience what it is like to work as a part-time, temporary or on-call employee. I am familiar with the problems in different forms of employment and I am willing to try to solve them," Tallgren states.
Tallgren holds a degree in data administration and he has been a member of PAM and its predecessor the Union of Commercial Employees in Finland for no less than 23 years.
“The employers’ proposals to dismantle generally binding collective agreements should be binned. In my own sector, for example, there is no generally binding collective agreement. In those companies where there is no generally binding collective agreement things are often very disorganised”, Tallgren says.
PAM’s President will be elected at the union congress, which will be held in Helsinki on 4-6 June 2018. SAK manager Annika Rönni-Sällinen has previously announced she is standing for election for President.
