There are two ways to pay membership fees. You can either let your employer deduct them straight from your pay or you can pay them yourself. If you pay your membership fees using reference numbers, you will get the whole year’s reference numbers in January 2019.

Membership fees for 2019 are unchanged. Membership fees for the union and the unemployment fund are 1.5% of gross pay. Membership fees are tax-deductible. PAM notifies the tax authorities in February of the membership fees paid by yourself or deducted by your employer. However, you are recommended to check in your tax proposal that the membership fees deducted are correct.

Student membership is free and is valid until completion of your studies. If you work while studying, you should change your PAM student membership into regular membership.

Your employer can deduct your membership fees straight from your pay or you can pay your membership fees yourself

The easiest way is to let your employer deduct your membership fees straight from your pay. Then you don’t need to calculate your membership fees from your gross income each month; your employer will do it for you. Read more about different ways of paying membership fees here

If you pay your membership fees yourself, the easiest way is e-invoicing. You can start using e-invoices through your online banking service. The instructions here tell you how to start using e-invoicing easily.

If, however, you want to make your payments using reference numbers, you will get a list of reference numbers in January 2019. The reference number list contains your personal reference numbers for each month. It is very important to use the right month’s reference number when paying so that the payment is booked correctly in the membership fee register. That way you will avoid unnecessary payment reminders and having to sort them out.

If you are not working at the moment and you have notified the union that you are exempt from paying, keep your reference number list in case you start using it again later

Are your membership details up to date?

You can check and correct your membership details on PAM’s e-services. For example, you can notify a change of employer or job description. It’s also a good idea to notify other changes in your circumstances. If for example you are going on parental leave or going to do military service, then you are exempt from paying. If your wage payments stop and you are not getting benefits from an unemployment fund, notify that too through eServices.
