New winds in youth activities

In 2022, regional youth networks will start their work in different parts of Finland.
Marjut Pihonen, PAM's organizational expert, is looking forward to the reform of youth activities. Through the reform, she sees many opportunities to strengthen the voice of young people in the trade union and society at large.
“The reform has been done together with young people. In the future, more young members of PAM will be able to participate and have a say – quickly and easily”, says Pihonen.
With the reform, the Youth Committee will finish its work and be replaced by a youth panel. Pihonen describes the youth panel as an open influential community that can be joined at any time.
“Our previous structures of influence are too rigid for young people’s fast-paced lives. They want to have an impact here and now, not in a year”, Pihonen concludes.
On youth terms
The youth panel is open all year round and you can participate according to your interests. The goal is for young PAM members to be able to have a say as soon as they join.
The panel holds annually a planning meeting where national and regional training and an event calendar is planned for the year ahead.
“Regional action groups will become a youth network. They aim to maintain an open and continuous dialogue and to encourage young people to take part in regional youth activities.”
In the future, young PAM members will have an easier access to activities for young people.

• A steering group is elected for the panel and a chairman for the group for one year.
• 33% of PAM members are young people under 30 years of age.
