No pay settlement in hospitality sector - Hotel, restaurant and leisure services collective agreements terminate
New negotiations on pay and terms of employment for workers and supervisors in the industry start in early March.
Service Union Untied PAM and the employers’ association MaRa’s views on the size of the pay increase were too far apart to reach a pay settlement within the set timeframe for pay negotiations. Therefore, PAM has terminated the collective agreement to end on 31 March 2023.
“The ingredients for a settlement on pay only weren’t there, so now we start preparing for negotiations on the entire collective agreements”, says PAM President Annika Rönni-Sällinen.
This means negotiations are not only about pay, but everything in the collective agreements, such as working hours and days off.

About 75 000 workers and 10 000 supervisors are covered by the the collective agreements in the hotel, restaurant and leisure services industry. The collective agreements sets the minumum terms and conditions of employment in for example restaurants, cafés, night clubs, hotels and spas.
In Spring 2022 as a part of the previous collective agreement negotiations it was agreed that the pay increases in 2023 are negotiated separately between PAM and MaRa. And that if a pay settlement was not reached by 15 February 2023, the collective agreement could be terminated to end on 31 March 2023.

PAM is part of the SAK trade unions’ coordination during the negotiations this spring. The unions seek together the pay raises workers deserve. PAM’s goal is a wage increase of about 200 euros for its members.
