PAM travels round to meet floor attendants in December
PAM joins in an international campaign targeted at floor attendants, reminding them of their rights and aiming at improving their working conditions. Among the professions covered by PAM's agreements, the work done by floor attendants is one of the hardest both physically and mentally.
In December, PAM participates in an international Dignity for Hotel Housekeepers campaign. PAM's employees, shop stewards and other activists go round hotels round the country on 8 and 9 December to meet the floor attendants as the hotel housekeepers are called in Finland. Visits will be made, at least, to hotels of the Sokotel, Scandic and Restel chains. The employer organisations have been informed about the visits.
The campaign aim is to improve the working conditions of the floor attendants. The purpose is to remind them about their rights and talk about coping at work. PAM distributes materials about the work and rights of floor attendants as well as about PAM. The campaign is also present in the social media; take a photo and upload it in Instagram with the hashtag #pidäpaussi, or go to Facebook and upload a badge posted on your profile picture at http://www.pam.fi/paussi.
The campaign is coordinated by IUF Global which is a worldwide union of hotel and restaurant workers, among others. IUF launched this campaign in 2010, and PAM is now involved or the first time. Last April PAM arranged the first campaign event Kerroshoitajapäivät.
Among the professions covered by PAM's agreements, the work done by floor attendants is one of the hardest both physically and mentally. The floor attendants often have no time to take the breaks although this right is clearly defined in the collective agreement. Often the work itself is badly dimensioned: there may be so many rooms to clean that it is impossible to cope with them during the working day.
