Rönni-Sällinen to run for PAM President
Rönni-Sällinen has worked in different posts in the trade union movement for more than 20 years. She is the first to announce her candidacy for the president election.
Annika Rönni-Sällinen, who has served the trade union movement for more than 20 years, is the first one to confirm her candidacy for PAM’s President.
The first candidacy for PAM’s President was announced on Monday September 17 when SAK’s Director Annika Rönni-Sällinen announced that she is ready to run for the post.
A group of PAM members asked Annika Rönni-Sällinen to run for PAM’s President. The new President will be elected by PAM’s congress next summer. The current President Ann Selin announced in spring that she is not available for the post anymore.
Rönni-Sällinen, 42, has worked in different posts in the trade union movement for more than 20 years, most of the time in Service Union United PAM. She is currently Director of SAK’s Working Conditions Department and holds a Master of Laws degree.
Rönni-Sällinen stresses the importance of promoting appreciation of service sectors and service professions. This is important for both PAM’s advocacy and the future of its members.
”Service sector professionals are dealing with unforeseen changes in their work. Many service sector workers, especially those working part-time and the self-employed, are struggling for their living. We need to safeguard the sufficiency of service sector jobs with fair working conditions, and that the expertise and skills of service sector professionals are acknowledged. This is ensured by developing high-quality jobs and employment relationships”, Rönni-Sällinen says in her news release.
Regional shop steward Sirpa Laakso from Hämeenlinna is one of those who asked Rönni-Sällinen to run. Laakso is also the chairman of PAM’s council.
”The new PAM President must have strong views on how to develop working conditions, improve the position of workers in the low-wage service sectors, and determination to move things forward. Annika has all these qualities”, Laakso notes. According to her, Rönni-Sällinen already has many supporters in different occupational groups.
Rönni-Sällinen says she aims at an open campaign, focusing on dialogue with the union members and shop stewards.
PAM’s congress will be held in Helsinki from 4 to 6 June 2019.
