Going to a job interview? - guidance for jobseekers
Updated: 20.05.2022
It pays off to prepare carefully for the job interview. Preparation usually makes you less nervous and more confident.
The interview is a chance for the employer to get a better understanding of the jobseeker’s knowhow and fit for the job: what the applicant is like as a person, their communication skills and whether they are truly interested in the job.
You can prepare for the interview
- Read the job announcement and your application one more time, so that you remember what it is you are applying for.
- Get to know the company for example by checking out their webpages. It’s good to know what kind of company you are applying to, and knowing the basics shows that you are interested in the job.
- Think about what you could ask about the company and the job.
- Review your strengths and how you introduce yourself.
- Think about the questions you might be asked and how you can answer them.
- Take your diplomas and work testimonials with you.
- At the end, ask how the selection will proceed.
Questions you don’t need to answer
You don’t have to answer all questions in a job interview. The employer is not allowed to ask about issues that relate to
- religion
- family relationships
- sexual orientation
- political beliefs.
