Resigning from the union

You don’t need to resign from the union if for example you start studying full-time, go on family leave, start military service or are receiving sick pay or unemployment benefits from Kela. If there is a gap in your wage income, you are entitled to exemption from membership fees for as long as you are not being paid.

If your circumstances change you don’t need to resign from the union – you can ask to be exempted from membership fees

You don’t need to resign from the union if for example you start studying full-time, go on family leave, start military service or are receiving sick pay or unemployment benefits from Kela. If there is a gap in your wage income, you are entitled to exemption from membership fees for as long as you are not being paid. Your membership remains in place whilst you are exempted from membership fees and you only need to start paying your membership fees again when you have returned to working life.

You only need to tell the union if you are not being paid or not getting benefits from the unemployment fund. Log in to the online service using your online banking codes or mobile certificate at asiointi.pam.fi/en. Remember to re-notify when you return to work to re-start your membership fees and keep your membership up to date.

If you are not satisfied with the service you are getting – give feedback rather than resigning

If you are not satisfied with the service you are getting from the union, we would prefer you to give us feedback on the service you are getting rather than resigning. We are doing our best to improve our services and activities, so direct feedback from members is extremely important for us. Every single member is important to us and together we can influence and improve things for us all in the service sector.

If you do want to resign, however, proceed as follows

If you want to resign from PAM, however, complete the resignation notice in PAM’s e-services. If for some reason you cannot access e-services, you can report this here.  

 

If your employer has deducted your membership fees from your pay, ask the payroll department at your workplace to stop collection from the date you tell PAM you are resigning. Also remember to check your pay slip for the next month to make sure that union membership fees have not been charged.

If a member resigns in person, they are considered to have resigned as of the date of resignation they give themselves. The date of resignation cannot be retroactive, however, which would imply refund of membership fees. If the membership fees have not been paid by the time of resignation, the membership is considered to end at the time for which the membership fees have been paid.
